About the Pork
The pork available from Scott Family Homestead has been born and raised right here on our farm in north central Wisconsin. They are a mix of breeds that thrive on pasture while producing a good amount of meat. They have been rotated through fresh grass pastures and supplemented with grain from our local feed mill. You won’t find anything like this at your local grocery store! Learn more about how our pigs are raised and why in our latest video:
About the Buying Process
- We grow out the hogs on our farm to butcher weight and deliver to the butcher
- We typically have butcher hogs available in the spring and fall. *Next butcher date is December 11, 2025 at Pinter’s Packing in Dorchester WI
- Customers pay per pound of hanging weight to Scott Family Homestead. (Hanging weight is the weight of the pig after organs are removed but prior to removing the cuts of meat. For a whole pig this is generally 175-225lbs.) A deposit is required prior to butcher and final payment is due prior to picking up final cuts.
- Customers will work directly with the butcher to order specific cuts and pay processing separately to them. This price will be determined by specialty cuts requested as well as smoking bacon, hams, etc.
- After Scott Family Homestead receives full payment and the butcher completes the order, meat must be picked up directly from the butcher.
What You Get
The best part of ordering a share of pork is the ability to select the cuts you and your family love. The butcher is easy to work with and available by phone or you can submit your cut list online in one simple form. Here are some examples of what you will receive if following the standard cuts through Pinters:
- Hams: each half comes with option of one full ham, 2 halves, or ham steaks, with the option to have them smoked or not. For a whole share you can choose what to do with each ham individually and can mix and match.
- Pork Belly: choose bacon, side pork, or whole pork belly
- Pork Steaks: you can choose to have shoulder steaks or have them added to your ground meat options
- Roasts: choose the size of roasts you prefer. We like the 2.5-3lb range the best.
- Pork Chops: you choose the thickness and how many per package. 5/8″ thickness is standard
- Extras: options to save spare ribs, neck bones, hocks (must specify in the comment area if you want these smoked at an additional charge), and lard. You can also request the pork liver in the comments.
- Ground Pork: choose a percentage of any combination of ground pork, brat patties, breakfast links, brats, or pork sausage. We recommend choosing 2 options per half share.
