Meet the Herd

The Bulls

Digger

Digger has become our farm mascot. He is a pure highland and is almost 5 years old. He is our bull, with many of his offspring on our farm. He’s a pretty chill dude, but as with any bull, we don’t turn our back on him. Digger has never tested fences or shown aggression and he makes a great breeding bull for our farm.

Dilly

Dilly is a shorthorn/simmental cross and our future bull. He was born in December and is still less than a year old. He was briefly a bottle calf but was adopted by our milk cow Rosie. He came from a local organic dairy and we are so happy to have him.

The Mamas

Sookie

Sookie is our oldest cow on the farm and the cow we have had the longest! She is somewhere between 9-10 years old and one of our best mamas. She is a lowline angus (also known as an Aberdeen) and started our love for these mini angus cows. We have been lucky to raise 3 of her calves and hope to have another on the way.

Martha

Martha came to us as a very young calf with her mama Sookie. She is a lowline/white park cross and is now 3 years old. She currently has a brand new little calf on her named Moonstone. She is a great mama and has the cutest calves. She was a trouble maker as a heifer but has settled in and is one of our favorites.

Juniper

Junie is another lowline cow and the biggest of the bunch. She is the mom of Pepper and Emerald. She is a super protective mama, so we need to watch our back around her when she has a baby. She loves pets and scratches, but has good protective instincts.

Hazel

Hazel is a lowline cow that came to us with Juniper. She is mom to Basil and Jasper. She is an easy going mama who loves scratches.

2024 Calves

Douglas

Doug is the last offspring of our first jersey, Lorelai. He is an almost 2 year old jersey/highland cross steer and is being raised for beef.

2025 Calves

Pepper

Pepper is a one year old heifer born on our farm last spring. She will be a future mom for our beef program.

Basil

For a little while there, we thought Basil was a bull. Woops! She is another lowline heifer that will be a mom in our beef program next year.

Fennel

Fennel is a steer that we bought as a bottle baby last spring. (Good thing too, because we ended up with all girls!) He will be part of our beef program. He is a black baldy and is growing really well.

Margie

Margie (short for Marjoram) is an almost one year old lowline/highland cross. She will have horns like her dad, Digger. Because her dad is on site, we will likely be offering her for sale this summer. She would make a great mama like her mom Sookie. Margie is very timid, but we are working with her a little every day.

2026 Calves

Emerald

Emerald was the first of our 3 spring calves. He came on St Patricks day and is a perfect little red head. Emmer is a lowline/highland cross and is very chill. He will be raised as a steer in our beef program.

Moonstone

Mooney is our white park/highland cross, sometimes known as a highpark. He is Martha’s little one and was born over 75lbs. Before long he will be standing as tall as his mama. He is full of energy and always wants to play with the other calves. Mooney will be raised as a steer in our beef program.

Jasper

Jasper is our newest addition and last spring calf, born to Hazel. We can already see how playful he is. He is another lowline/highland cross with slightly lighter coloring than Emmer. Jasper will be raised as a steer in our beef program.

The Milk Cows

Rosie

Rosie is our family milk cow. She is a full registered jersey and a great cow. She has been machine milked in a dairy setting but is now hand milked or used as a nurse cow. She currently feeds Dilly and should have her own calf this summer. She is the mom to our 1 year old jersey, Sage.

Sage

Sage is our one year old jersey born on our farm last April. She is in halter training, preparing to be a family milk cow. She is timid and gets pushed around a bit by the other cows, so we are giving her some extra love and attention.
